We continue our look back at some of our former fiscal sponsorship organizations to see how they have grown and changed since their early days with Ascend. In this article, we revisit the Homeowners Impact Fund with Susan Jewell, HIF’s nonprofit coordinator.
What year did your organization/project get started: 2020
What needs in the community was your organization created to address: The homelessness crisis in Charlotte, NC.
How long did Ascend Nonprofit Solutions serve as your fiscal sponsor: 1 year
How did having Ascend as your fiscal sponsor help your organization: They were able to help us get off the ground so that we were able to accept donations before we received our 501(c)3 status
Compared to today, how has your organization grown or changed since that time: In 4 years, HIF has raised ~$500,000 in donations
People served/services provided: We actively identify when local charities (that deal with the CLT homeless) have immediate needs & contribute the necessary resources to fulfill them with impact giving. We pool our donations to create a more substantial impact compared to individual contributions. This collective giving approach enables HIF to address urgent needs promptly. Every dollar raised is directly allocated to one of our approved charities. All administrative costs are covered by corporate donations/grants.
Impact/success: HIF has distributed more than $355,000 to local organizations, directly impacting people effected by homelessness since 2020.
Homeowners Impact Fund is made up of individuals, companies and homeowners engaged in the Charlotte real estate market dedicated to giving back to our community by recognizing and addressing the urgent needs of the homeless population in Charlotte. The real estate industry has experienced vibrancy nationwide for numerous years. As beneficiaries of this success, we aspire to pay it forward and extend assistance to those beyond the reach of our regular services.
HIF acquires partners that give a minimum of $1,000 for three years. If you’re unable to commit to $1,000 for three years, but still want to become a partner, you can host an event/party that raises a minimum of $3,000.
