At the end of 2022, United Way Central Carolinas will have invested $3 million in their Unite Charlotte program. That is a $2 million increase from their support from 2021. The increased funding from United Way is in part due to increased funding by Mecklenburg County. This program provides grants and capacity-building support to grassroots organizations led by people of color. Unite Charlotte will fund 55 agencies in 2022.The funding will also go toward an innovative pilot program with Children & Family Services Center, which will connect some of these grassroots agencies to valuable assistance in their human resources, IT and finance functions, allowing them to focus on program delivery.
One of the Unite Charlotte agencies is The Bulb Gallery. This organization provides fresh, local produce to food insecure areas through mobile markets and other programming. Read more about how United Way’s funding has allowed them to reach residents in food insecure communities here.
